Swervedriver's Peel Session
Swervedriver are the one shoegaze band it's taken me a while to get into, I have copies of "Mezcal Head" and "Raise" but rarely really listen to either, though at first I was in love with "Mezcal Head," I guess when I look to shoegaze I don't expect to hear individual chords and look more for some music to absorb me rather than make me listen.
I came accross the Peel sessions on Swervedriver's website a little while ago and they are what really broke me in, particularly "Zedhead," there is just so much energy in that performance, it's unreal. "Volcano Trash" is great as well, to find riffs that are seriously creative in shoegaze is a rare pleasure, the clear vocals and lyrics help the song along a lot too.
If you can pick up the live catalogue of Swervedriver then I say you do it as soon as you can, especially if you like both brit pop and dream pop but you don't need that narcosis feel from the likes of Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine.
Here's two mp3s:
Swervedriver - Volcano Trash (Peel)
Swervedriver - Zedhead (Peel)

Well shit, I'll thank you for the post. Defintely a band to be appreciated not so much for individual songs but for entire discs.... I rarely throw them on unless I'm going to listen to a complete disc.... so throw on Raise and crank it the next time you are feeling energetic
